Specialized Northwoods Tours
#1- Artists and Nature in the North
This day tour involves traveling throughout the northwoods meeting
artists and craftspeople, visiting galleries and workshops,
and winding through the backroads of the northcountry, taking
in the scenery. We will enjoy lunch in a charming village, take
a walk or snowshoe (depending on the time of year!), along a
sparkling lake, and bring home memories of the beauty in both
Art and Nature. Truly a one-of-a-kind experience! 9-4:30, limited
to 6 people, $28 per person (Lunch and museum fee not included)
#2- A Northwoods Overview
On this tour we will drive the backroads of the northwoods,
taking in historical sites such as Indian mounds and the Lac
du Flambeau Cultural museum. We will meet some exceptional artists,
have lunch in one of the villages, and take a short nature hike
to discover the natural beauty and lore of the area. From Ojibwe
history to contemporary art-making, this tour provides a memorable
insight into this beautiful and rich region. 9-4:30, limited
to 6 people, $28 per person (Lunch and museum fee not included)
#3- Art in Action- Demonstration and Gallery Walk
This tour is held at the Center, and includes a gallery walk
and talk, a studio tour, and overview of the art-making process.
Joan will then provide a sculpture demonstration, creating a
piece in stoneware clay inspired by northern imagery, mythology
and symbolism. Participants are encouraged to ask questions
as the sculpture comes to life before their eyes. Truly an authentic
and memorable experience! ( 2 hours, $6/person)
Your guide, Joan Molloy Slack, is an artist, teacher, outdoorswoman
and owner of Riverrun Center for the Arts and has family history
in the Northwoods for the last 100 years. She has offered teaching
tours in Ireland, Scotland and Mexico as well as the Northwoods.
One of her joys is connecting people to the lore of the land,
and bringing history to life, and her love of art, story, and
sharing the beauty and uniqueness of the Northwoods color the
tour’s adventures.
